The champion is back! The best in the world, CM Punk, made his comeback to the ring at the conclusion of Wednesday’s brand-new episode of AEW Dynamite following surgery earlier this year.

Fans have been wondering how long CM Punk would be sidelined, but the expectation has been that he would return before All Out, AEW’s premier pay-per-view that takes place in Punk’s hometown of Chicago.
At Dynamite, Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho squared off in the main event of Dynamite for the AEW Interim World Championship. The Jericho Appreciation Society and Blackpool Combat Club engaged in a brief gang war after Jericho submitted, but it was short-lived. CM Punk’s music and the crowd’s thunderous roar stopped Jericho in his tracks.

However, the Jericho Appreciation Society rushed at the ring to beat Mox, as has become customary for Y2J’s recent fights. Eddie Kingston and Ortiz failed to protect their ally from the beating after the Blackpool Combat Club. Before Jericho could hit Moxley with the title belt, CM Punk returned home to clean house.
Given that there can only be one AEW World Champion and both men are in hold of belts, Moxley and Punk were destined to clash. Mox gave Punk the finger and shoved him to the side as the night came to a close, and then Punk got the crowd pumped for his comeback.
It goes without saying that CM Punk’s return provoked AEW fans everywhere to go insane.
The two world champions then stood face to face once the ring had been cleared, with Moxley turning the Lineal Champ off and walking. This gave Punk the chance to experience audience applause for the first time since announcing his injury following Double or Nothing.
His return is in the lead-up to All Out, which is being hosted in his hometown of Chicago. One year after making his AEW in-ring debut, it would make sense for the champion to make a triumphant comeback to unify the world championships.
