Virat Kohli tweeted “Being this man’s trusted deputy was the most enjoyable and exciting period in my career. Our partnerships would always be special to me forever.”
Kohli was the Vice Captain of India over a brief period under MS Dhoni before taking over the captaincy of the test team after Dhoni announced his retirement mid way of the test series in Australia in 2014.
He then went on to become the full time captain of India in all the formats in 2017. Virat Kohli performed exceptionally well under Dhoni’s leadership and was the man of the tournament in 2014 and 2016 T20 world cup.
Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni the best duo’s on and off the field
Kohli always admired MS Dhoni and on few instances the respect that Kohli had for captain cool was shown on the field.
One such instance is : In the 2014 World cup semi final match Kohli gave the strike to MS Dhoni to finish the match but MSD played the ball defensively and gestured to Kohli that he should finish the match.
The kind of relationship and respect that one had for each other is so adorable for the fans to watch and the fans are badly missing the duo together on the field.
Even after Kohli took over the leadership role, Dhoni and Kohli seemed to get along and often praised each other.
Having taken a break from international cricket, Virat Kohli who is going through a tough phase in his international career with lack of form is expected to comeback stronger in the India’s first match of the Asia cup against Pakistan.
It’s even more important for Kohli at the Asian Cup, which is played in the T20 format, to find his form in India’s campaign against arch-rival Pakistan begins on Sunday.
