Channing was given a traditional athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida. He was a member of the Florida Gators football team two years ago. As a linebacker and true freshman for the Florida Gators in 2003, Crowder played in 11 games.

In 2003, he was the first freshman and made an outstanding debut for the Florida Gators. Young Crowder led the team in tackles made in 2003, with 9.6 per game. Crowder also contributed to the team’s victory by making Kentucky’s quarterback turn the ball over, and that interception set up a Florida Gators score to seal the win.

Channing Crowder also won the 2004 Florida Gators Most Acceptable Linebackers Award while leading the team as captain. He recorded his highest two quarterback sacks versus LSU as a result. Crowder had a midfoot injury in the same game against Georgia and was out for the remainder of the year. He recovered from an injury in time for the Peach Bowl, where he made three tackles.

The Miami Dolphins chose Crowder in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He agreed to a four-year contract with the team in July to see him play in 13 regular-season games. Since Zach Thomas’ career-high total of 90 tackles in 1996, Crowder’s 2005 total of 90 tackles was the most by a Dolphin.

Aside from that, he has made four interceptions this season, recovered two fumbles, and caused two others to be turned around. Additionally, Crowder made his first appearance on the field following his injury sustained in the game against the Patriots on December 12, 2008. He was kicked out of the game and sent home after a fight with Matt Light.

The Miami Dolphins inked Crowder to a new three-year contract on February 25, 2009. But after sustaining a right foot injury on December 30, he was placed on injured reserve. In addition, on July 29, 2011, the Miami Dolphins signed Kevin Burnett as a Crowder replacement. Additionally, on August 9, 2011, Crowder declared his retirement from the NFL.

Retirement

The Miami Dolphins had re-signed Crowder to a three-year deal as of February 25, 2009. After that, he was put on injured reserve because of a right foot injury. On July 29, 2011, the Miami Dolphins fired Crowder, and Kevin Burnett was hired. On August 9, 2011, Crowder informed the NFL that he was leaving the league.
