ENG W vs SA W: England women square off against South Africa women in the 2nd semi-final of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 at Newlands, Cape town. England end their group stage undefeated. South Africa enter the semi-finals after a dominant win their last league game.

England Preview

England Women after a dominant performance in the group stage will face off against spirited host nation South Africa. England were untroubled in their group games. They were at the top of their game. In their last group game England recorded highest total in Women’s T20 World Cup history. They scored 213/5 against Pakistan. Nat Sciver scored 81 runs in 40 balls. Danielle Wyatt finally turned up scoring 59 runs in 33 balls.

England won the game against Pakistan by 114 runs. Kathrine Brunt and Charlotte Dean picked up 2 wickets each. England’s attacking approach has paid huge dividends in the tournament. Their batting depth makes them one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Their record against South Africa is phenomenal. England is one of the most experienced side in the tournament. Sophia Dunkley, Danielle Wyatt and Alice Capsey are attacking batters. They like to score runs in quick time. Nat Sciver, Heather Knight and Amy Jones form the middle order.

Nat Sciver is the leading run-scorer in the tournament. She scored 176 runs in 4 matches. Sophie Ecclestone is the team’s leading wicket taker picking up 8 wickets in 4 matches. Sarah Glenn picked up 7 wickets in 4 matches.

South Africa Preview

South Africa after a heart breaking loss to Sri Lanka in their opening match made an emphatic comeback to reach the Semi-finals. They won their 2nd match against New Zealand by 65 runs. Then they lost their 3rd match to Australia by 6 wickets. In a must win game against Bangladesh South African openers finally stepped up smashing 117 runs and winning the game by 10 wickets.

Laura Wolvaardt showed her class against Bangladesh smashing 66 runs in 56 balls. She smashed 7 fours and 1 six in her knock. Wolvaardt will once again have to step up in the semi-final clash against England on Friday.

Tazmin Brits is South Africa’s 2nd leading run scorer in the tournament. Brits scored 108 runs in 4 matches. South Africa’ s middle order batters failed to perform. This has been South Africa’s issue throughout the group stage. Marizanne Kapp, Sune Luus and Chole Tryon can smash bowlers on their day. The experienced trio will be hoping to good in front of their home crowd.

The Bowling attack of the proteas has been bang on. In the league stages no team has scored more than 130 runs against South Africa. Marizanne Kapp is the team’s leading wicket taker picking up 7 wickets in 4 matches. Nonkululeko Mlaba has been one of the most economical bowlers in the tournament. She picked up 5 wickets in 4 matches.
