Karim Benzema and Real Madrid mutually agree for a contract extension until 2024. The 35 year old Ballon d’or winner was nearing the end of his contract with the Spanish football giants. Benzema scored match winning goal in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over English club Liverpool to secure them a spot in the final eight of the Champions League.

According to reports Benzema agreed to a 12 month contract extension with Real Madrid. His contract will end in 2024. Several other clubs across Europe have reportedly drawn interest including clubs from Saudi Arabia and his old club Lyon. Benzema choose to stay with Real Madrid for the 15th season.
The Frenchman after signing a new deal with the club said ” I am at Real Madrid, I enjoy it, like any other player who can play for Madrid. What happens in football, we don’t know.”
Benzema’s contract extension was initially proposed by the team’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti to the management and the club agreed to extend the contract under fresh terms for another 12 months. The club had concerns over his age and his interests in joining other clubs.

Ancelotti said ” We have to take into account Benzema’s age, but also what he brings. He is our main player. He did perform well at the start of the season and he will continue to perform well in the next season.
” For me, Karim is a lifelong Real Madrid player, I’m clear about what will happen next year.”

With them locked in on winning the trophy, Benzema can potentially become 6th time Champions League winner with Real Madrid.
