Eddie Howe’s side has decided to sign the ex-Liverpool goalkeeper a week after the transfer window ended because they are short in options in that position.
Newcastle signed the Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope this season, as Burnley was relegated to the 2nd tier of English Football. Their keeper Martin Dubravka went on loan to Manchester United to be the backup of David De Gea.
The Club’s backup keeper Karl Darlow has picked up an injury that will rule him out for some weeks. The German international is expected to replace the Englishman and play second fiddle to the Newcastle number one, Nick Pope.
Italian Football Journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Karius has been in contact with Newcastle and he has also signed the contract with the club.

Karius stood 29 times in goal for the Reds, keeping 13 clean sheets in the Premier League. He knows the Premier League and could be a great backup option for Nick Pope.
He made a total of 49 appearances for Liverpool in total and kept a number of 22 clean sheets while playing for them. He conceded 47 goals in those 49 games and some of them like the champions league goal by Benzema are still remembered by fans.
Jurgen Klopp quickly replaced him with Brazilian keeper Allison who has significantly improved their performances and guided them back to the glory years.
