Newcastle United are set to sign German goalkeeper Loris Karius imminently, reports Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenburg. The 28-year-old is currently a free agent after being released by Liverpool in the summer.
Eddie Howe’s side has decided to sign the ex-Liverpool goalkeeper a week after the transfer window ended because they are short in options in that position.
Newcastle signed the Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope this season, as Burnley was relegated to the 2nd tier of English Football. Their keeper Martin Dubravka went on loan to Manchester United to be the backup of David De Gea.
The Club’s backup keeper Karl Darlow has picked up an injury that will rule him out for some weeks. The German international is expected to replace the Englishman and play second fiddle to the Newcastle number one, Nick Pope.
Italian Football Journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Karius has been in contact with Newcastle and he has also signed the contract with the club.
