Copa del Rey semi final draw took place on Sunday. Real Madrid will face Barcelona in one semi-final and Athletic Club are paired with Osasuna for another semi-final. The first leg of semi-finals will be played on 1st and 2nd March 2023 with the return fixture scheduled on 4th and 5th of April. Osasuna are the only club who has never won this cup out of four semi-finalists. Seville’s Estadi La Cartuja is the host for Cup finals on May 6th, 2023.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have faced each other twice this season in League and Super Cup. The arch rivals will face each other with an eye for a berth in finals. The cup format plays all matches in single leg format and semi-finals alone in two leg format. The fixtures are subject to a date change with Real Madrid being a part of FIFA club world cup. Athletic Club, 23 time Cup winner will face Osasuna in the last four. The Pamplona club presents itself an unique opportunity to win the first title in their history.
Barcelona fended off Real Sociedad challenge in the quarter-finals. Dembele settled the fixture with his goal against 10 men Sociedad. The Madrid derby went to extra time and Los Blacos got the better of their neighbours. Ancelotti’s side won the fixture 3-1. Valverde’s Athletic Club won their fixture 3-1 against Valencia. Osasuna had to take it until extra time to seal the fixture against Sevilla. The Andalusian club equalised at the final minutes to take the tie to extra time. Arrasate’s team came out on top with Ez Abde’s 99th minute winner.

“Without a doubt it’s going to be a huge game, not just in Spain but worldwide, It’s going to be special.” Barca football director Jordi Cruyff said. “It’s a historic rival for us and we compete against them for everything. It’s going to be a beautiful battle.” Barcelona will face Madrid in league on March 19 in between their Copa del Rey semi-finals clash. The first leg of the semi-finals will be played at the Bernabeu on March 2 with the return at the Camp Nou on April 5.
“At this stage of the competition there are no favourites,” Madrid defender Dani Carvajal said. “We will have to give the very best of us to reach the final. It has been a long time [2013-14] since we last lifted the Copa. That was my first title as a Madrid player. I hope this year we can lift it.”
