Golden State Warriors are the front runners to acquire Caruso. Sean Deveny in his recent interview with an anonymous GM of the Eastern Conference said that Alex Caruso is the man to watch out for.
“The guy to watch is (Alex) Caruso.”
The GM then explained how Alex Caruso’s contract makes him a frontrunner at the trade.
“They have had talks about Coby White but he is going into free agency, and if you trade for him, you’ve got to pay him. No one is ready to take that leap with him. But Caruso has a contract that teams like (two years, $19 million after this season) and he is a good piece on a winning team.”
“If they can get some draft capital back for Caruso, and maybe a player, that would suit them. Teams like Phoenix or Miami, both would be in a position to make a trade like that.”
If Caruso gets traded the Bulls will surely look for some draft picks along with a suitable role played to match Caruso’s value.
The GM also spoke about the warriors leaving out James Wiseman. Wiseman has been awful this season so far. He was sent to the G League but he failed miserably.
“Even the Warriors, they could send out a young guy, a guy like (James) Wiseman to get into win-now mode. Philadelphia, same thing, they could offer some of their young guys — Matisse Thybulle, Shake (Milton) and add another guy to make the salaries work. The Lakers certainly would like to have him back if they had the young guys to do it.”
Alex Caruso Stats in 2022 season
Caruso is averaging 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He is shooting at 43.8% this season. Caruso is one of those guys who is a hustler on the defensive end and brings that additional cushion to any team with his defense.
Caruso could be a perfect role played for the Warriors. Golden State is in an awful position with Steph Curry sidelined with a shoulder injury. Since Curry’s injury warriors had a 1-6 run. Golden State has an overall record of 15-18.
The area of concern for the defending champions has been their defense and no solid role players on the bench. Otton Potter Jr and Gary Payton left in free agency. The youngsters haven’t stepped up to their game and struggled on offensive and defensive ends.
