Chelsea are set to sign Benfica star Enzo Fernandez for a record €112 m premier league fee. Enzo Fernandez impressed with his game at the recently concluded FIFA world cup. He won the Young Player of the tournament award after his team Argentina defeated France in the final in a penalty shootout.
The Blues are set to finalize the deal for a record transfer fee of £112million according to Colin Millar ( Analyst at The Mirror). The release fee is £6m more than that of Fernandez’s release clause of £106m.
Benfica will rake a huge profit from Enzo Fernandez transfer as he was signed for £8m from River Plate last summer. The Portuguese side requested Fernandez to stay till the end of the season as Chelsea may not qualify for the Champions League.
The recent reports suggest that the midfielder denied the teams plea and further infuriated teams manager Roger Schmidt by flying back to Argentina to celebrate New Year.
The young Argentinian now has to undergo medical tests and agree to personal terms and conditions before signing and being finalised as a Chelsea player. Fernandez could be potentially the 4th signing by the blues in January. Chelsea recently signed David Dafro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Benoit Badiashile.
