Though the deal hasn’t been signed, the Premier League club is set to pay less than what the La Liga side initially were looking for. Chelsea is set to win the race for the Portuguese, with Joao Felix opting to join the Blues instead of clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal.
United and Arsenal were eager to sign the youngster, but the 23-year-old is keen to join the Blues. With Chelsea looking to amp up their attack, the addition will come as a big boost.
Earlier, last month, while speaking to TVE, Atletico chief executive Angel Gil Marin had confirmed that Felix was on his way out. “The reasonable thing is to think he (Felix) will leave. Although I would love him to stay, that is not the player’s idea,” said Joao Felix.
In the Premier League, Chelsea is currently languishing at tenth place. Most recently, Chelsea fell to a 0-1 loss to defending champions Manchester City. Following their loss in the league, the Blues were handed a 4-0 crushing loss by City once again, this time in the third round of the FA Cup.
With just seven wins from seventeen Premier League games so far, Chelsea will be eager to get some wins under their belt. Meanwhile, Felix has scored five goals and registered three assists in twenty appearances for the La Liga club. In their most recent fixture against league leaders Barcelona on Sunday, Felix started the game, where Atletico suffered a 1-0 loss.
Chelsea have had an active January transfer window so far, having signed the likes of Benoit Badiashile and David Datro Fofana.
