Edouard Mendy’s howler cost 3 points for the Blues as it was simply a welcome gift for the American midfielder Brendon Aaronson.
For spells, the game wasn’t anywhere near as one-sided as the score line suggests.
The Blues started the game very well as Raheem Sterling cut inside from the left side, but his shot was slightly wide of the goal in the first minute itself. In the 15th minute, Raheem Sterling again saw his goal disallowed after the linesman raised his flag.

It was a classic ball by Chelsea’s new left-back, Marc Cucurella. As the game progressed, Chelsea fans didn’t have an idea of what was coming for them.
They couldn’t cope with the high-pressing football from the Leeds. As the clock turned half an hour into the game, Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, received a back pass from Thiago Silva. He took a long time on the ball and Aaronson’s pressing on him resulted in a first Premier League goal for the American.
Just after the 5 minute mark after the first goal , on Jack Harrison’s freekick, Rodrigo headed home his 4th goal in 3 games this season. Leeds’ previous boss, Marco Bielsa, didn’t work enough on the set pieces, but their new boss, Jesse Marsch, is working relentlessly on the dead balls and the results are paying off in the game.
They look threatening in dead ball situations. Leeds continued to roar on until the interval and were in control of the match, heavily influenced by both Tyler Adams and Marc Roca in central midfield, who were winning the ball back and breaking up attacks.
In the 2nd half Leeds raced up the other end on a counter attack and scored a superbly worked third goal! Daniel James used his pace to break free before crossing into the box and finding Rodrigo, who puts the ball up for Harrison to fire home at close range! That’s it! 3 – 0 Elland Road Roared up cheering for the whites!
The vast majority of the 36,372-strong crowd inside Elland Road were left to sing and celebrate in the final few minutes, as Leeds United secured an excellent and thoroughly deserved three points at Elland Road.
