Nissanka Powers Sri Lanka to 152

Earlier in the day UAE won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka gave the team a steady start. Once Mendis departed, Dhananjaya de Silva and Nissanka played few classy shots adding 50 runs for the second wicket.

Dhananjaya De Silva ended his innings in a rare miscommunication leading to run out and a breakthrough. The run out put the breaks on the scoring rate.

That’s the Hat-trick!

UAE chasing a target of 153 were off to a good start in the first over scoring 10 runs. Dushmantha Chameera on his return was quick to take a wicket as he dismissed Mohmmad Waseem in the 2nd over, the wicket was also Chameera’s 50th wicket in T20I’s. He bowled a brilliant inswinger to dismiss Aryan Lakra in the same over.

UAE kept on losing wickets at regular interval’s and none of their batsman troubled the Sri Lankan bowlers. At the 10 over mark UAE were 36/6. Wanindu Hasranga and Chameera did most of the damage. After losing the first game against Namibia, Sri Lanka have roared back strongly to win this contest by 79 runs. They are well and truly alive in the competition and will fight it out against the Dutch side in their next game.

The moment of the UAE innings was Junaid Siddique smashing 109 M six that travels out of the stadium.

Captain’s Corner

Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain):

They (crowd) are following us everywhere we go. I’d like to thank them. Really disappointed with the way we ended the innings (with the bat). We could have scored 180-190. The tone was set upfront, but Bhanu (Bhanuka Rajapaksa) and I didn’t click. It was important to tick with a win, we focused on a win only. He (Pathum Nissanka ) is outstanding, his focus is to bat through the innings. I’m happy for him. (When asked about Chameera’s injury) Hopefully everything will be fine.

Chundangapoyil Rizwan (UAE Captain):

We thought it was a decent score. We could have done a better job in the first innings while bowling, but we came back really well. We kept them under check. We thought it was a decent score to chase. (On Meiyappan) He bowled beautifully. To get a hat-trick in a WC is special. He’s a special bowler. We play in hot conditions like 45 degrees. To play here, it’s different. We are trying to adapt as much as possible. Our batsmen couldn’t get going. They (SL) showed their experience. We have to work on our skills and try to come back with a better show.

Player of the Match
