Khabib Nurmagomedov, the undefeated and undisputed lightweight champion in the UFC with a 29-0 run, is enjoying his retirement and training young talent in combat sports, and he has commented on Kamaru Usman’s loss in UFC 278.
Khabib said he is unsure on how Kamaru Usman will react to his defeat via Knockout against Leon Edwards and losing his welter weight title. The fight which came to the very last round and Edwards landed a solid head kick to knock out Usman with a minute left in the fight.
Edwards with the super kick becomes only the second Britain player to be crowned as UFC Champion.
“I watched and honestly i was surprised, You could even say I am little bit upset” Khabib Nurmagomedov said on a MMA show.
He further added that he has good friendship with Kamaru and was upset that one of the best fighters in world getting knocked out severely with 50 seconds left in the fight.
Khabib who watched the fight between Usman and Edwards was expecting the fight being judged on scores and Usman would eventually win it like most of his previous fights.
This is what the sport is all about. Usman landed his hand in one wrong spot and in a matter of seconds everything turned up side for him. If a player in UFC cannot defend himself properly then it is obvious that it’s going to be lights out and when he wakes up in the locker room everything is over. Khabib Nurmagomedov commented.
He feels that Usman can defeat Leon Edwards in MMA.
Usman outpointed Edwards 35-30 in the fight in 2015. The win was part of his long victorious run which eventually led him to winning the title in 2019. The title which he managed to defend successfully five times
.The coach and manager of Usman further added ” I’m aware that the trilogy is already in works”, “I believe [Usman] can beat Leon Edwards, but after such a knockout, a lot of people don’t recover. It will be interesting to see, but I would love to see the trilogy.”
